Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has reported to the team’s voluntary offseason workouts slimmer and in better shape than he was at the end of last year.
The team, in particular head coach Tom Cable, had made it very clear that he was not happy with the lack of work ethic displayed by Russell since coming into the NFL.
In fact, Cable’s anger over Russell’s laziness and poor shape almost cost him his job. Owner Al Davis is a big fan of Russell and wants to see him starting games.
The Raiders are hopeful that Russell’s better conditioning means that he is finally maturing and ready to step up and become a more professional player.
There has never been a question about Russell’s talent, as he undoubtedly has one of the strongest arms in the entire NFL.

Just as it looked like the market for free agent wideout Terrell Owens was drying up, a team has stepped in with interest in signing him.
It comes as little surprise that the team happens to be the Oakland Raiders, who seem like the perfect landing spot for Owens.
The Raiders have a history of drafting and signing players with attitude or off-the-field problems.
They also have a history of signing big names who are nearing the end of their career, as is the case with Owens.
It’s amazing how quickly Owens has fallen since his glory days with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Oakland Raiders have cut running back Justin Fargas after he failed a physical, eliminating a crowded situation in their backfield.
Fargas was arguably the team’s most consistent running back, but the team has a lot of money invested in Darren McFadden.
The Raiders are also very high on Michael Bush, whose big body and bruising running style is a nice contrast with the quick McFadden.
Fargas was a team and coach favorite, especially when it came to head coach Tom Cable, who loved the running back’s strong work ethic.
The veteran likely won’t be out of work for long, as some team will certainly see value in Fargas at least as a backup at the position.
