Hanson Tells Police Cable Broke His Jaw

If you thought Jamarcus Russell’s completion percentage was ugly… well, you were right. But the Raiders soon might have off-the-field troubles to match their putrid on-field performances.

Raiders assistant coach Randy Hanson told the Napa Valley (Calif.) Police Department that Raiders head coach Tom Cablebroke his jaw during an altercation on Aug. 5, according to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora.

Hanson’s lawyer, John McGuinn, told NFL.com that the situation was “a textbook case of felony assault.”

Initially, Hanson decided to hold himself out of the investigation – potentially because he continues to be a member of the Raiders staff, albeit a staff member who’s not allowed to come to practices. However, Hanson hired an attorney within a couple of weeks of the incident and turned the X-rays of his broken jaw over to police.

“Randy answered the detective’s questions, but we have no idea whether charges will be coming,” McGuinn said. “That will strictly be determined by the police and the DA’s office. We have no input. He just answered questions.”

The NFL has not made a formal decision on the case yet, saying it is still under investigation.

Raiders embarassed by Broncos, 23-3

The Oakland Raiders followed up an ugly win with an even more disgusting loss, this one to the Denver Broncos, 23-3.

The Raiders were completely embarassed on their home field by a team that really isn’t all that talented.

The Oakland defense was the worst offender, allowing more than 200 yards rushing to a plethora of running backs.

Then again, how can you defense that Raiders offense? The team managed just one field goal and Michael Bush was the leading rusher with just 20 yards.

Russell struggles again in loss

The Oakland Raiders had a chance to built some momentum after stealing a win last week against Kansas City. They were returning home and a win over the Denver Broncos would’ve meant a 2-0 start in division play.

Instead, the Raiders played like, well, the Raiders. The Broncos ran all over an Oakland defense that had been impressive thus far, racking up over 200 yards on the ground in a 23-3 win. JaMarcus Russell turned in another abysmal effort, throwing for 61 yards and two interceptions. For all his physical gifts, he looks completely lost under center. It doesn’t matter how far you can throw the ball if you can’t put it in the right spot. And Russell is the least accurate passer in the NFL.

For the second straight week, the Raiders were held to under 200 yards of total offense. That has prompted the boo birds to come out in Oakland, and with good reason. This team is only going to go as far as Russell can take them. That’s not good news for Raiders fans.

Raiders nip Chiefs, 13-10

The Oakland Raiders are showing improvement in 2009, and now the result was finally shown in the win column.

The Raiders went on the road and into Arrowhead Stadium to pull out a 13-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell still looks overmatched, but he helped lead his team to the game-winning touchdown.

The young quarterback also avoided any turnovers compared with the two interceptions tossed by Chiefs signal caller Matt Cassel.

The Raiders now sit one game behind the Denver Broncos in the AFC West race.

Raiders nipped by Chargers, 24-20

The Oakland Raiders had a solid showing in Monday night’s nightcap but couldn’t quite hold off the San Diego Chargers in a tough loss, 24-20.

The Raiders came out of the gates fired up in front of their home crowd, running the ball right at the Chargers.

The result was Michael Bush and Darren McFadden ripping off chunks of yards and pushing the Raiders up and down the field.

However, quarterback JaMarcus Russell simply has not come of age yet to provide balance to the offensive attack.

The defense played well but seemed to wear down as the game went along, struggling to get stops in the second half.
